screenshots from the making of ‘trees of rotterdam’, with alice ladenburg, sometime in 2023. the film is entirely made with terrestrial laser scans captured by jens van der zee. the scans are so rich – they’re full of strange reflections, ghostly figures moving through the city, minuscule details in parking racks, even jens himself captured in reflections – that i ended up spending days just exploring what we could include in the final film. there were pages and pages of notes for each scene like these. these ones are all from the lijnbaan, which has many reflective surfaces, and thus much weird extra detail.
